Whole Holes

Waking in the silence of the night
His memories are screaming
Of those now only in his memory

The memories
Burn Holes
In his heart
No longer Whole

They say he was lucky
He came home Whole
Just a few scars
But what of his mind
Left with Holes

Only deep in the bottle
Does he talk
Of the memories
Of ghost in his eyes
Of medals
Hidden away
He left a young man
Came back
Whole as a man
With memories
No man should remember

But remember he does
That he fought
That he fights
Those memories everyday
So his son, daughter, granddaughters
Don’t have to fight
Everyday
To be alive
To live
With memories
With Holes of ghosts
So they’re lives can be whole.
